Kristine’s destruction; 46 dead; 20 missing, 3.3 million adversely affected

At least 46 persons were confirmed dead while 20 others are missing following intense pounding of winds and heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Kristine (International name: Trami) in the three days.
The Office of Civil Defense reported on Friday (October 25) that the impact of Kristine resulted in the death of 46 persons.
The OCD is still awaiting for the latest report on the 20 missing individuals.
“Many are still trapped on the roofs of their homes and are asking for help,” said Police Director Andre Dizon of the Bicol Region.
Over 3.3 million suffered adverse effects while thousands are still in shelters due to the flooding and devastating winds that damaged homes and crops.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development reported that 805,000 families were affected by the weather disturbance. At least 40,000 of them are from Ilocos Region.
DSWD Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao disclosed some 288,000 individuals are still housed in 3,300 government shelters as of Friday (October 25).
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. aired his sympathy to the victims and vowed to continue sending help and rescue individuals still trapped in their homes.
“We are grateful for the resilience, leadership and proactive measures undertaken by ouor local government units which saved many, many lives,” Marcos said.
He added: “I have ordered the full mobilization of available AFP personnel and resources whichcan ber committed to relief operations.”
In Bicol region, former Vice President Leni Robredo led relief operations through her Angat Buhay Foundation. She distribute ood and medicine while comforting those who have lost loved ones and houses as a result of Kristine’s devastation.
Like Ilocos Region, Bicolandia suffered the worse blow from the cyclone.
Meanwhile, an estimated 10,000 travelers were stranded in 115 ports in the country , the Philippione Coast Guard reported.
