A 32-year-old Filipino-American nurse was found dead in Portland, Oregon, two days after she was reported missing on Wednesday (Sept 4) US time.
Police arrested a neighbor, Bryce Jonathan Schubert, 27, a day after the body of Melissa Jubane was found following a thorough search made by officers and her neighbors on Saturday.
Jubane was a nurse at the cardiac department of the St. Vincent Hospital in Southwest Portland.
Schubert, on the other hand, is also a nurse assigned at the Providence Portland Medical Center. He was charged with second degree murder for the death of Jubane.
Both victim and suspect were neighbors in Beaverton, a city adjacent to Portland which is popular as Nike’s global headquarters.
Jubane was first reported missing around 10:18 am on Sept. 4 after she failed to show up for her morning shift duty. Her no show raised serious concerns among her friends and family, including co-workers.
Immediately after receiving the report, Beaverton officers went to Jubane’s residence at 1050 Southwest 160th Avenue and were met by the apartment complex staff who have already searched her unit. Jubane was nowhere to be found in the area.
Attempts to contact her through her telephone proved futile as it was turned off during the time.
Police said Jubane’s bank and credit cards gave no information about her whereabouts.
In the afternoon, police turned to the national alw enforcement database as a missing person. This triggered a thorough search which resulted in the discovery of the victim’s body.
Police did not share any detail about Schubert’s involvement and the location where his alleged victim's body was found. The cause of death was likewise not revealed.
