Binalaan ng Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ang publiko laban sa paggamit ng pitong produktong kosmetiko na naglalaman ng nakalalason na mercury.



Nagpalabas ang FDA sa website nito ng pitong public advisories na nagsasabing hindi pasado dito at hindi dapat ibenta o ipagamit sa publiko ang mga nasabing cosmetic products na karaniwan ay galing sa China.



Ang mga brand ng kosmetikong naglalaman ng mercury ay ang Sandal Beauty Cream, Faiza Beauty Cream, Feique Herbal Extract Whitening Freckle Removing Cream, Feique Green Tea Whitening Nourishing Anti-FreckleSet, Feique Cucumber Whitening and Freckle-Eliminating Cream, Feique 2-in-1 Lemon Whitening Anti-Wrinkle Face ream Set at ang Feique Snail Liquid Whitening Anti-Freckle Set.



Ayon sa FDA maaaring makakapinsalasa kalusugan ang mga sangkap ng mga nasabing produktong kosmetiko dahil sa “contamination of heavy metals.”



“The use of substandard and possibly adulteerated cosmetic products may result in adverse reactions, including, but not limited to , skin irritation, itchiness, anaphylactic shock and organ failure,” ayon sa pahayag ng ahensya.



Dahil dito sinabihan ng FDA ang publiko na huwag bumili o gumamit ng nasabing mga cosmetic products.



“Always check if a product is notified with the FDA by using the FDA Verification Portal feature accessible at https://verification.fda.gov.ph, which may be used by typing in the name of the product before the purchase and/or using the cosmetic products,” payo nito.



Binalaan din ng FDA ang mga tindahan at distributors na hindi dapat nila itinda ang mga nasabing produckto hanggang hindi pa tumutupad ang mga ito sa FDA rules and regulations.



Pinasalamatan naman ng EcoWaste Coalition ang FDA dahil sa ginawa nitong pag-abiso sa publiko laban sa mga nasabing produkto.



“Equipped with a portable X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), the group detected mercury in all the seven products at levels exceeding the one part per millioni (ppm) limit for mercury as a heavy metal contaminant as set by the Asean Cosmetic Directive,” paliwanag ng grupo.
