Even before the Senate could start its probe into the blood drug war under the Duterte administration, serious doubts into the objective of the inquiry have been cast in the House of Representatives.
House Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro was first to air skepticism into the Senate probe which Sen. Ronald “Bato Dela Rosa is planning to pursue
De la Rosa said the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs which he chairs will summon former President Rodrigo Duterte to shed light into the hundreds of murders that took place during the first three years of his presidency.
Before this, the Lower House Quad Committee had already launched its inquiry into the subject with both Dela Rosa and Duterte being implicated to an alleged cash reward scheme offered law enforcers for the extra judicial killing of suspected drug pushers and even addicts.
Also being linked to the EJK’s is Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.
Go, Bato disclosed, has also expressed his intention to file a resolution calling for a probe into the drug war deaths.
“Sa tingin namin, gusto lamang guluhin ni Sen. Bato ang imbestigasyon na isinasagawa ng Quadcomm at maghasik ng fake news,” Castro said in a press statement.
She added: "The sincerity and objectivity of this proposed investigation are in question, as it seems to serve as a diversion rather than a genuine effort to uncover the truth."
Castro pointed out that the drug war murders took place when Dela Rosa was at the helm of the Philippine National Police.
"Ano yan? Inquiry in aid of legislation o gusto lang nyang pagtakpan ang pananagutan nya , ni Pres Duterte at iba pang may kinalaman sa EJKs?”, she asked.
Interviewed by Senate reporters on Wednesday (October 16), Dela Rosa said he has yet to inform Duterte about his plan to call him to testify before the Senate panel.
Bato said his committee is authorized to conduct a motu propio investigation into the drug war killings notwithstanding the fact that the Lower House had already initiated one.
According to him the probe will take place during the congressional break.
