China Coast Guard ships on Tuesday (April 30) damaged a Philippine civilian boat and a Philippine Coast Guard ship tapped for a supply mission to Filipino fishermen in Bajo de Masinloc, it was reported by the Philippine Coast Guard.
The CCG ships fired water cannons at the two Philippine vessels as China continued its bullying tactics to lay claim over the whole of the West Philippine sea.
Commodore Jay Tarriela, spokesperson of the National Task Force of the West Philippine Sea) disclosed that PCG vessel BRP Bagacay and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources vessel BRP Bankaw “encountered dangerous maneuvers and obstruction” from four CCG ships and six maritime militia boats.
Tarriela said the Chinese vessel used its water cannon at aroudn 9:53 AM on Tuesday and directly hit the starboard astern of BRP Bankaw.
The BFAR vessel was just about 12 nautical miles off Bajo de Masinloc which is known as Scarborough Shoal.
BRP Bagacay was about 1,000 yards east southeast of Bajo de Masinloc when two CCG ships trained their jet stream water cannons simultaneously at the PCG vessel.
BRP Bagacay’s left side was damaged. Also heavily damaged was the canopy at the back of the vessel.
“Despite the harassment and provocative actions of the Chinese Coast Guard, both the PCG and BFAR vessels stood their ground and continued their maritime patrol,” said Tarriela.
According to Tarriela the CCG had again installed a 380-meter floating barrier that covered the entire entrance of the ScarboroughShoal to block access to the area.
The Chinese state media boasted in its report that the CCG had “expelled” the two vessels.
