Bounty raised to P6-M for attackers of Misamis Occ governor

1/12/24, 4:00 AM

Reward money has been raised to Php6 million for the identity and arrest of persons behind last year’s failed assassination attempt on Misamis Occidental Governor Henry Oaminal Sr., it was reported Friday (January 12).

The plot to kill Oaminal was carried out when unidentified suspects detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) while the convoy of the governor was passing by last October 15.

So far, police have not yet identified either the mastermind or the culprits behind the blast.

In a statement, the Misamis Occidental Provincial Police Office vowed to observe utmost confidentiality of any person who could provide information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects.

The reward money will be divided between the informant and the law enforcers, with the latter receiving Php5 miliion.

Oaminal was in a convoy along the highway in the municipality of Clarin when an IED exploded. There were no casualties.

A former congressman, Oaminal has ordered intensive peace and security measures in the province and vowed to continue its support to the police and military.

"My appeal this 2024 is for us not to create violence as it will distract our direction for development, with an added desire to bring investors to the province," Oaminal said in a statement.

His call for peace and order is supplemented by the desire to improve good governance and developmental direction in the province.
