100 killed as blasts hit memorial for 2020 US-drone target Gen. Soleimani

1/4/24, 1:50 AM

Two powerful bomb explosions killed at least 100 people and wounded over 200 others at ceremonies commemorating the death of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani who died during a drone attack staged by the United States in 2020.

Iranian officials blamed unidentified “terrorists” for the explosions in Kerman City and vowed retaliation. US and Israel are tagged usual suspects.

Soleimani, headed the powerful Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, was killed when an American MQ-9 Reaper drone fired missiles towards his convoy that was headed to the airport at the Baghdad International Airport on January 2, 2020.

Before his death, Soleimani was accused by the US military of causing the deaths of hundreds of soldiers during the Iraq war. He allegedly provided Iraqi militias with advanced bomb-making equipment and trained them for terrorist's activities.

“General Suleimani was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service in Iraq throughout the region,” the Pentagon claimed in justifying the assassination.

On Wednesday, supporters who gathered in Kerman City were attending the fourth death anniversary ceremony for Soleimani when two bombs were exploded 20 minutes apart.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the massacre that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi condemned as a “heinous and inhumane crime.”

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, Irans head, vowed “harsh response” against the attackers. He did not identify the group his country suspected to be behind the twin bombings.

Mohammad Jamshidi wrote in his X (formerly) Twitter post: “Washington says USA and Israel had no role in terrorist attack in Kerman, Iran. Really? A fox smells its own lair first.”

The Biden administration was apparently unaware of the incident but is convinced that the incident was a “terrorist attack.”

Ranking high as among the suspects, Israel has yet to issue a statement about the incident.
